Reading about travel to China

Hi Folks,

As the trip gets closer I will try my hardest to update this blog a bit more often.

I've established a contact in the states who should be able to access this blog with updates.  Since Ian mentioned that Yahoo Mail works in China, I've created a Yahoo Mail account, which I would encourage all of you to do in case you want to contact loved ones back home while we are traveling.

When we arrive, as soon as I can, I will send my contact arrival information.  My contact will then update this blog so that your family and friends are notified that we have arrived safely.  Feel free to give this blog address to whomever you'd like.  I can't promise that it will be updated more than a few times while we are in Beijing, but at least it will serve as a way to get notice to all friends/family/loved ones that we've arrived safely.

I've been keeping up to date with the tension over in the DPRK.  It looks like the political tensions will not affect our trip as of yet, which is good news.  But I'll keep a close eye on the news as time moves forward.

In the meantime, I would encourage you all to read through this link about traveling to China:

http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1089.html#crime

Towards the middle of the page is where you'll want to concentrate.  It has information about:

Threats to Security
Crime
Medical Facilities and Health Infomration

And quite frankly, it's got a lot of good information on there for you to review.  Safety is a priority on this trip, so the more informed we are, the better.

I'll chat with y'all soon!
